Russia to resume sending “humanitarian convoys” to occupied Donbas

Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations will resume sending “humanitarian convoys” to Russia-occupied Donbas, namely districts controlled by the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” (“DPR”). The freight is expected to arrive on July 25, according to the Novosti Donbassa media outlet, which cites the “DPR Emergencies Ministry.”

The convoy is allegedly carrying medicines and medical equipment. Earlier the Kremlin explained a halt to the so-called “humanitarian convoys” by the necessity to conduct the so-called “assessment of needs” in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. As UNIAN reported, the previous “humanitarian convoy” was sent to Russia-occupied districts in Donetsk and Luhansk regions on December 20, 2018. Russia had been sending so-called “humanitarian” freight to the combat zone in Donbas since August 2014. Ukrainian customs officers and border guards are not allowed to examine “humanitarian” trucks. Moreover, the Ukrainian officials claim that they have proof that the “humanitarian” cargo included, among other things, weapons, ammunition and anti-tank grenades. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly called on Russia to stop the violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty by supplying the so-called “humanitarian” assistance.
