Peshawar customs foils attempt to smuggle betel nuts, tyres worth Rs30.7m

PESHAWAR: Collectorate of Customs squad deputed at DI Khan thwarted an attempt to smuggle 9800 kilograms betel nuts and truck tyres worth Rs30.7 million.

According to details, credible information was received that some unscrupulous elements were transporting substantial quantity of betel nuts from Karachi to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the guise of some exportable vegetables.

Collector Preventive Asif Saeed Khan Lughmani issued strict directive to ground staff for thwarting the attempt of smuggling.

The customs squad was performing duty when a truck loaded with fresh onions arrived. The Customs squad took charge of the truck and found that it was loaded with betel nuts under onions.

The Customs Preventive collector lauded the anti smuggling activity. Market value of the seized betel nuts and tyres is estimated to be Rs25.7 million and value of 16300 kgs onions and seized truck is Rs 5 million.

Customs squad registered FIR against the accused driver and started further investigation in the case.
