China gifts 3 cargo scanning machines to Customs JIAP

KARACHI: Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China hands over cargo scanning machines to Model Customs Collectorate Jinnah International Airport (JIAP).

According to the details, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China handed over three Cargo Scanning Machines to the Customs Collectorate (MCC) Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) Karachi. These machines are given as gift by the Chinese Consulate to Pakistan Customs.

A handing over ceremony of the scanner was held which was attended by the Member Customs FBR Jawwad Uwais Agha, Chief Collector Customs Enforcement Wasif Ali Memon Chief Collector Appraisement Surriya Butt officers of Pakistan Customs Service and the Consul General Wang Yu from the Consulate of Peoples Republic of China.

Customs Collectorate (MCC) Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) initiated a project of deployment of Cargo Scanners at immediate clearing group (ICG), Airport Ramp area and Express mail service (EMS) for screening of cargo to introduce Non Intrusive Inspection at various sheds of Karachi Airport.

The Consulate General of China Karachi supported the initiative of the Collectorate and gifted three high tech scanning machines to Airport Collectorate. Feroz Alam Junejo welcomed the guests and thanked Chinese Consulate at handing over ceremony of cargo scanners. The Consulate General Mr. Wang Yu reiterated the support of Chinese Consulate to Pakistan Customs in efforts of modernization.

Member Customs Mr. Agha Jawaad highlighted the initiatives taken for modernization of Pakistan Customs to achieve the objectives of revenue collection, trade facilitation and effective Customs controls.

He was of the view that introduction of Non Intrusive Inspection (NII) is in line with the international best practices which will strengthen the Customs controls at borders. He thanked the Chinese consulate and termed the good will gesture reflective of Pak China friendship.

The said machines will be effectively utilized for screening of cargo at AFU ICG, Airport Ramp Area and Express mail Unit, Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, which will help in quick clearance, reduction in dwell time of goods air port, effective Customs control and higher trade facilitation.
