LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday suspended a notification of 16 percent sales tax on small beauty parlours and asked the Punjab government to submit a reply within one month in this regard.
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the orders on a petition filed by various small beauty parlor owners. The petitioners’ counsel argued before the court that 16 percent tax imposed by the Punjab government would burden the small parlors which were already struggling for their survival.
Under the serial no 18 of the second schedule to the Punjab Sales Tax on Services Act 2012, services are provided for the personal care by beauty parlors and clinics. Slimming clinics including cosmetics and plastic surgery are chargeable to Punjab Sales Tax at standard rate of 16 percent.
