Appraisement East registers FIR against M/s China Gift Center in polyester prayer mat case

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Appraisement East has detained several persons for mis-declaration of goods in respect of description, PCT and heading in order to clear new polyester prayer mat of assorted colours in the garb of used clothing.

According to sources, Collector Nadeem Memon  received information that M/s China Gift Center imported a consignment ‘01×40’ container no: WHSUS5386989 declared to contain used clothing manifested to have been shipped from Ningbo, China.

The information further revealed that the importers in active connivance with their clearing agents and other accomplices have mis-declared the description, quantity, origin, classification of the imported goods by submitting false, fake and fabricated information into WeBOC to evade legitimate revenue of government .

In order to confirm the authenticity of the aforementioned information, examination of the pin-pointed consignment imported vide container no: WHSU5386989 arrived at SAPT vide Vessel “Xin Mei Zhou” 15-8-2019 was examined physically.

On examination, “New polyester prayer mat of assorted colours, packed in PP bags, mode of packing: 50 pieces/bag x210 bags, quantity 10500 pieces net weight 12600 kilograms approximately” were found, instead of declared “1×40” HQ FCL CNTR STC used clothing shippers load stow and count”.

The examination of these four containers, which led to recovery of new polyester prayer mats worth Rs7.01 million and involving duty/taxes of Rs4.86 million.

Appraisement East has lodged an FIR against Muhammad Shahid of M/s China Gift Center, Muhammad Hamza, Qaiser Abbas of Ali & Co, Muhammad Idress, Muhammad Ali Idrees and Muhammad Ahsan Idrees.
