Peshawar Preventive generates Rs454m in September: Collector Asif Saeed Lughmani

PESHAWAR: Collectorate of Customs Preventive seized non-duty paid (NDP) goods worth Rs 454 million during the month of September 2019.

Customs Collector Preventive Asif Saeed Khan during an interview with Customs Today said that Preventive Peshawar seized huge quantity of smuggled and non-duty paid goods including vehicles, narcotics, currency and gold during September 2019 of current Financial Year.

All 9 anti-smuggling units of Customs Preventive are working day and night to seize smuggled goods, Collector Asif Saeed Khan said and added MCC Preventive in different raids and road interceptions has recorded 100 percent increase in revenue collection with respect to September 2018.

MCC Preventive collectively seized 56 kilograms hashish and foreign cloth worth Rs 103 million in September. MCC Preventive Peshawar team also seized black tea weighing 5107kg, 1004 tyres and 3411 mobile phones. Gold 3.2kg, auto parts worth Rs 22 million, miscellaneous goods worth Rs 97 million and 15 non-duty paid vehicles also included in seizures made in September.

The seizure worth millions of rupees carried out in order to curb the menace of smuggling. MCC Preventive team in a raid on a godown at a congested area of Faqir Abad, Peshawar seized foreign origin cloth and cigarette valuing Rs 33.78 million.

MCC Peshawar Preventive team also intercepted a vehicle containing foreign origin cloth and cigarette valuing Rs29.56 million at Colonel Sher Khan Interchange on Motorway. The seizure of foreign origin gold slabs valuing Rs 11 million at departure hall Torkham Customs Station is one of the major seizures of MCC Preventive Peshawar during September. At least 1200 smuggled mobile phones were also seized by anti-smuggling unit Noshehra.

Collector Customs Preventive Peshawar Asif Saeed Khan further said that magnificent performance of collectorate preventive has brought increase in revenue collection. The customs collector further said that enforcement operations carried out in the current month resulted in mega seizures of smuggled cigarettes along other non duty paid goods. The collector added that special plan has been executed in order to curb the menace of smuggling of foreign origin cloth from Karkhano market to local markets.
