KARACHI: The National Accountability Court directed investigation officer to complete proceeding under section 87,88 Cr Pc for declaring Babar Khan Ghori as proclaimed offender, the former minister for ports and shipping, who is still absconder in charges of corruption, corrupt practices and abuse of authority for illegally appointing 940 employees in KPT.
On 3 October 2019, investigation officer appeared before the court and informed that he has started proceedings against the accused for proclamation and wrote latter to officers concerned of all over the country to know whereabouts of their moveable and immovable properties and after search out, all properties would be seized. After the hearing, court granted further time and directed him to complete such proceedings till next date of hearing.
According to the NAB officials, suspects are involved in charges of corruption, corrupt practices and abuse of authority for illegally appointing 940 employees in KPT in connivance with [the MQM’s] Babar Ghauri, the then minister for ports and shipping, adding that the appointments were made in violation of KPT law, rules and regulations “without advertisement of vacancies, competitive process, age criteria, medical examination of appointees and in violation of basic formalities”.
A large number of those appointed had a criminal record in serious cases such as “terrorism, premeditated murder and robbery” and that the illegal appointments resulted in losses to the national exchequer to the tune of Rs2.8 billion, NAB said.
