KARACHI: The Customs Court approved physical remand of seven suspects and sent them to customs lock-up who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle 10112 liters high speed diesel through wooden lunch.
On November 13, 2019, investigation officer produced the suspects namely Ibrahim Shah, Rahim Sajeed, Abdul Latif, Asif Khan, Rahmat Khan, Amroz Khan and Sabir Rahim and informed that on an actionable information, Customs Collectorate Preventive intercepted wooden launch Al-Naseeb, registration number NO BFD-7895 in the sea, near Rasmuari, Pakistan Customs Territorial Water and found 20 plastic drums and 08 plastic tank and recovered 10112 liters high speed diesel valuing of Rs9,601,640.
He further submitted that after the formalities, all suspects were taken into customs custody and goods were also seized by customs officials, he argued case was registered against them and efforts are under way to arrest the all absconding suspect involved in this menace, he stated that that prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may grant their physical remand.
After the hearing, court sent them back to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce them before the court on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2(s) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (89) of section 156 (1) further read with section 156(2) ibid.
