Customs Court approves remand of suspect in smuggling case

KARACHI: The customs court sent suspect namely Shah Khalid son of Abdul Qadir to customs department on physical remand, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle foreign origin cloth total valuing of Rs 13,111,371.

On 29 November 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive submitted first information report (FIR) and produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted Nissan truck/ trailer bearing registration no SPN-190(NHOB).

He further submitted that during the search, customs officials recovered 507 kg ladies cloth, stamp via Karachi in transit to Afghanistan, containing Habib Collection made in China, 814 kg ladies cloth bearing stamp via Karachi in transit to Afghanistan containing Naqeeb Collection made in China, 5413 kg plain ladies cloth and 10,596 kg curtain cloth of assorted size and design bearing stamp via Karachi in transit to Afghanistan total valuing of Rs13,111,371.

He argued that the above mentioned suspect was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, customs officials seized all goods along with vehicle and he also was taken into custody.

He stated that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of financiers, perpetrators, abettors and others including owner of the vehicle, therefore, court may approve his physical remand, after the hearing, court approved remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
