Customs AIIA foils bid to smuggle foreign currency

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIA) foiled a bid to smuggle to foreign currency worth Rs291m.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Basit Maqsood Abbasi received credible information about smuggling of foreign currency. He immediately alerted customs staff to enhance checking of passengers going abroad through foreign airlines. The customs team intercepted a passenger Muhammad Sabir, a resident of Muzaffarbad, who was leaving for Bangkok through Thai Airways flight no: TG-346.

During checking, customs team recovered foreign currency worth $0.170 million and local currency of Rs 0.291 million. The customs authorities off-loaded the passenger after recovering the currency.

It is necessary to mention here that Collector Customs Allama Iqbal International Airport Basit Maqsood Abbasi directed customs staff to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling of foreign currency. He directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling of foreign currency should be dealt according to law.
