KARACHI: The Customs Court extended physical remand of suspects namely Naseer Ahmed son of Ali Khan and Muhammad Irfan son of Sher Muhammad and sent them back to customs lock-up, who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle betel nuts, foreign origin tyres, Ajinomoto salt etc.
On 30 January 2020, investigation officer of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization submits first information report (FIR) and argued that on an actionable information, customs preventive intercepted one Hino T
truck/ Trailwe bearing registration no: TMF-524 and during the search found Monosodium Glutamate bearing mark as Lindhua made in China 625 kilograms valuing of Rs193,750, 12 foreign origin Marshal Brand tyres worth Rs273,420, 5000 kilogram betel nuts worth Rs4,000,000. One generator brand Cummins 30 KW, New made in China valuing of Rs593, 510, One betel nuts cutting machine worth Rs200,000 etc.
He submitted that after the search, above mentioned suspects were asked to produce any documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, they were arrested and goods also were seized by customs officials.
He said that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of financiers, abettors and others, therefore, court may send them back to customs department on physical remand.
After the hearing, court extended their physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
