Customs Court extends remand of suspects booked in goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court extended physical remand of suspects namely Naseer Ahmed son of Ali Khan and Muhammad Irfan son of Sher Muhammad and sent them back to customs lock-up, who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle betel nuts, foreign origin tyres, Ajinomoto salt etc.

He submitted that after the search, above mentioned suspects were asked to produce any documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, they were arrested and goods also were seized by customs officials.

He said that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of financiers, abettors and others, therefore, court may send them back to customs department on physical remand.

After the hearing, court extended their physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
