Customs Preventive submits FIR against suspect in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to arrest absconding suspect namely Rehman Ghouri son of Hafiz-ur-Rehman Ghouri and others, who was nominated in first information report (FIR) in foreign origin crushed betel nuts smuggling case.

On 13 July 2020, investigation officer submitted that on actionable information, a team of Customs Preventive raided at warehouse/ godown and recovered 40 bags weighing 1590 kgs of foreign origin crushed betel nuts and 1 gutkha making/ mixture machine.

He said that preliminary investigation was conducted from the said person who disclosed his name Muhammad Farhan Ghouri and also disclosed he is owner of recovered goods and when staff of customs inquired from him about the person who had escaped from the said warehouse, the accused said the one person namely Rehman Ghouri is his brother and he is also his partner of the said godown.

He submitted that due to non-availability of import documents, the goods foreign origin betel nuts and gutkha machine available in the said warehouse were taken into lawful custody in the presence of mushers and after the formalities first information report (FIR) has been lodged against him.

He said that first information report (FIR) is lodged accordingly; further investigation in respect of owner of declared premises are in still progress and they will be produced before the court when arrested.

After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed him to complete investigation and submit progress report.
