Customs Court directs to arrest culprits involved in contraband goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to arrest culprits, financiers, abettors and owner, who were nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle huge quantity of contraband foreign origin goods into Pakistan.

On 24 July 2020, investigation officer of Anti-Smuggling Organization submitted that on credible information, customs officials raided at cigarette market, Chati Lane, Boltan Market, Karachi.

He further submitted that during the raid customs officials recovered 115 cartons containing Dunhill brand foreign origin cigarettes total 4750 dandas, worth Rs11,875,000. 11 cartons containing Oris Slim brand foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs825,000, 4 cartons containing Mond brad foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs300,000, 7 cartons containing Davidoff brand foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs750,000. 03 cartons containing Nipoli brand foreign origin cigarettes, 06 cartons containing Senator Cigar worth Rs170,000, 110 pp bags of assorted brands of cigarettes worth Rs9,750,000.

Investigation officer said that as no one came forward to claim the ownership of the recovered goods, therefore, customs officials seized all goods valuing of Rs. 25,295,000 and lodged first information report (FIR) against owner and others persons who had tried to smuggling said goods into Pakistan.

He argued that efforts are underway to arrest the persons involved in the crime and they will be produced before the court when arrested. After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed him to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
