KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Muhammad Bakhtiar son of Muhammad Maqbool to customs lock-up on physical remand, who is booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 60,000 liters foreign origin (Iranian) high speed diesel worth Rs6,084,000.
On 30 July 2020, investigation officer of Directorate General, Intelligence & Investigation-Customs submitted first information report and also produced the above mentioned suspect before the court, he stated that on actionable information, customs officials intercepted an oil tanker bearing registration no: TLX-108 loaded with smuggled HSD oil.
He stated that during the checking, customs officials recovered 60,000 liters high speed diesel (foreign Iranian) worth Rs6,084,000 and during the search, the above mentioned driver was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he fails to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, goods along with vehicle were seized and driver was taken into custody.
He argues that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of other culprits, who may involve in this crime, therefore, court may send him back to customs custody.
After the hearing, court approved his physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered against culprits in violation of section 2 (s) 16, 32 (A) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub-section (1) read with sub section (2) of section 156 of the customs act, 1969.
