DC Inamullah Wazir’s Customs JIAP foils bid to smuggle gold worth Rs4.8m

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs team deputed at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) foiled a bid to smuggle 500 grams of gold.

According to sources, Deputy Collector Inamullah Wazir directed customs teams to enhance monitoring of passengers arrived from foreign countries. During checking of passengers who were arrived through Qatar Airways flight no: QR604. The customs team intercepted a passenger and recovered 500 grams of pure gold worth more than Rs4.8 million. The passenger was hiding gold biscuits in his pants pockets. A case has been registered and the passenger has been arrested.

Earlier, during the month of December, a passenger who was going to Africa via Dubai through Emirates airline has been intercepted, after he had crossed ASF and ANF checks at departure lounge, and a recovery of 308 grams of pure gold (24 carat) was affected, which he had concealed in a unique manner as buckle of his belt with metallic coating on it. On further thorough search 37,000 UAE Dirhams were also recovered from his luggage, which he had not declared.FIR has be lodged and the passenger has been arrested.

A seizure of 250 grams heroin was affected at General Post Office, Karachi by Drugs Enforcement Cell of Customs Karachi Airport. The drugs were concealed in a book cover. The parcel  was booked from Punjab, Pakistan to Ontario, Canada. FIR has been registered and investigations are in progress. Value of the seized heroin is estimated to be Rs 2.5 million in international market.

It is necessary to mention here Deputy Collector Inamullah Wazir directed all customs teams to  adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. He directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt as per law.
