Collector Fawad Shah’s Customs Exports foils bid to smuggle huge quantity of opium to Canada

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Port Mohammad Bin Qasim foiled a bid to smuggle 200 kilograms of opium to Canada.

Sources told Customs Today that on 15 February 2021, Collector Customs Exports Syed Fawad Ali Shah received credible information about smuggling of opium. He directed customs team to enhance vigilance on the suspected containers. The customs team intercepted a suspected container no TRHU5201943 containing “General Goods” at Port Qasim Karachi which was destined to Canada.

During detail search of cargo/ container, 200 kgs “Opium” recovered which was tactfully concealed in the bottom Pillars of the container. Details of shippers and Consignee are as under:

Consignee: Nation Fashions &Fabrics Limited. 14396 115ave surrey bc v3r, Canada. 12366883858

Further backtrack investigations are in progress to arrest the culprits.

Earlier Customs officials on Port Qasim thwarted an attempt to smuggle 36 kilograms of heroin worth Rs360 billion which was tactfully hidden in footballs. These footballs were made in Sialkot and were meant for Canada hidden in which were about 36 kilograms of heroin that is worth over Rs360 billion in the international market.

Four suspected to be involved in the smuggling have been detained by the customs officials and cases have been lodged against them while for others a team of officials have been constituted and sent to Sialkot.
