Customs I&I foils bid to smuggle goods worth Rs45m via train

LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) seized a train-bogie loaded with smuggled goods worth Rs45 million which had been transported from Karachi to Lahore.

Sources told Customs Today that Director Asad Raza received credible information that huge quantity of smuggled goods will be transported to Lahore via Karachi. He immediately directed Additional Director Hasan Farid to take all measures to thwart any attempt of smuggling.

Deputy Director Tayyeba Bokhari and Deputy Director Ali Akbar Zaidi constituted a team consisting Superintendent Agha Qadeer, Inspectors Nauman Ashraf, Allah Ditta, Tiayypu, Asif Jakkhar and Sepoy Nadeem.

The above mentioned anti-smuggling squad seized goods of complete bogie of goods train coming from Karachi. The goods are Iranian juice, chocolate, almonds and other miscellaneous items. The value of detained goods is approximately Rs 45 million.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation team registered a case of smuggling against the owners of the goods and further investigations are still in progress till the filing of this report.
