Multan I&I impounds smuggled dates near Dera Ghazi Khan

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&) has seized huge quantity of foreign origin dates from Dera Ghazi Khan.

According to details, Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Asad Abbas received credible information from a source that huge quantity of foreign origin dates will be smuggled from jurisdiction. Assistant Director Javed Raza formed special team of field Intelligence unit comprising Inspector Hafiz Muhammad Younas , Zulfiqar Ahmad and others to take strict action against non-duty paid dates. Field Intelligence Unit of Dera Ghazi Khan took action against them on the basis of received information and started patrolling in the suspected areas to foil any attempt of smuggling.

Customs Intelligence Unit intercepted a Mazda truck near Sakhi Sarwar which was loaded with foreign Origin Dates and it was coming from Quetta to transport foreign Origin dates in the South Punjab region. Filed Intelligence Unit team asked drivers of the said vehicle to produce legal documents but he failed to produce any evidence of import documents to justify its possession

Customs Intelligence team recovered almost 3500 Kilograms dates which were packed in the cartons during their examination. The recovered dates were Iranian Origin and they were trying to smuggle in Punjab through clandestine routes in the country. Customs Intelligence has taken the dates into their custody. The net value of seized dates was almost Rs1.5 million. Further investigations were still underway.
