Customs Court directs IO to arrest culprits in goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to arrest culprits, owners, financers, abettors, associates and other and produce them before the court, who are involved in smuggling of contraband goods into Pakistan.

On 5 July 2021, investigation officer informed the court that an actionable information was received to the effect that huge quantity of assorted foreign origin smuggled dry milk/ whey powder etc was secreted in the premises of the godown situated at shop no 02, M/s Iqbal Godowns, Baloch Garage, near Niazi Chowk, Lyari, Karachi.

He further informed the court that on that information, customs officials raided the same location and found 23 bags having original packing containing smuggled Iranian SHEIZAR brand whey powder total 575 kg, 122 bags having original packing containing smuggled Iranian PEGAH brand Milk Powder total 3050 kg, 30 bags having original packing containing smuggled Iranian PURE FRESH brand dry milk Powder total 750 kg, 125 kg having repacked packing containing smuggled USA origin DAIRY AMERICA brand Spray Powder total 3125 kg, 10 bags having repacked packing containing smuggled Netherland origin BEST CHOICE brand instant fat filled powder total 250 kg. 250 kg Poland origin MAPCO brand Fat Filled Milk Powder, 325 kg of Poland origin FARMERS CHOICE brand Spray Dried Milk Powder and others goods.

He argued that one suspect who is owner of the godown namely Muhammad Iqbal was nominated in first information report (FIR), however, owners of goods, financers, abettors and others yet to be ascertained during the investigation.

After the hearing, court took FIR into court record and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit progress report for next date of hearing.
