QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement and Compliance (E&C) team with the assistance of Frontier Constabulary (FC) has started crackdown against smugglers and seized smuggled goods worth millions of rupees at Nokandi.
Sources said that seized goods include cloth, blankets, tyres, electronics, and motor oil. The value of the seized goods comes to Rs130 million. These foreign origin goods were to be smuggled to in-country via Quetta.
Collector Irfan Javed, Additional Collector Umar Shafique, Deputy Collector Akbar Jan and Assistant Collector Umair Khan already expedited their efforts against non-custom-paid vehicles and smuggled diesel from Iran.
Collector Irfan Javed said new Customs check posts are being established, which would significantly curb smuggling. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has earmarked Rs180 million for this purpose.
An official said the Imran Khan led government had devised a policy to increase the tax revenue without increasing taxes on common man.
The official said as Customs and FBR were quite alert the incidence of smuggling particularly by known and notorious smugglers had reduced to a significant extent.
