SHC dismisses petition filed by M/s Najam Associates for restoration for NTN

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has dismissed as not press a constitutional petition filed by M/s Najam Associates seeking restoration of its NTN blocked by customs officials. A two-member bench, Comprising Justice Shafi Muhammad Siddiqui and Justice Agha Faisal heard the matter dated October 20, 2021.

During the hearing, Arif Manthar, holding brief for Imran Iqbal Khan for petitioner, Kafeel Ahmed Abbasi Deputy Attorney General and Hussain Bohra Assistant Attorney General appeared before the court.

During the hearing, learned counsel stated that on instructions does not press this petition, after the hearing, court passed order and dismissed as not pressed along with pending applications.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner had stated that petitioner is engaged in imports of electrical and mechanical engineering goods and always fulfils all the legal formalities according with law.

He submitted that customs officials have blocked its NTN-user ID and illegally detained the goods arrived at port and blocked NTN and demanded duty and taxes in the tune of Rs 4,21, 092.

Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Collector of Customs Appraisement East and others as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court to declare that act of the respondents is illegal, mala fide and arbitrary, he also pleaded the court may direct them to de-block its NTN- user ID immediately and restrain them from taking any coercive action against the petitioner till final order in this petition.
