KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has seized foreign origin cloth worth Rs160.2 million during last 15 days.
Sources said that Director Khalil Yousafani directed the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) to use all available resources to curb the smuggling of foreign origin fabric. Hectic efforts were made by the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), resulting in seizure of 45 tons of foreign origin smuggled / non-duty paid cloth during last 15 days. The market value of the seized fabric is approximately Rs106.1 million.
In continuation of above persistent efforts, ASO team raided at Plot No.C-194, Sector 6-B, North Industrial Area, Karachi as there was possibility of removal of smuggled goods.
The search of premises was carried out under Section 163 of the Customs Act, 1969 by ASO team. This exercise resulted in recovery of huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled / non-duty paid fabric weighing 22 tons. The smuggled foreign origin fabric have been seized. The market value of the seized goods is approximately Rs54.1 million. Legal proceedings have accordingly been initiated.
Sources said that approximate value of seized foreign origin fabric during recent operations is Rs160.2 million.
