Appraisement East thwarts attempt to clear goods in the garb of scrap

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Appraisement East has impounded huge quantity if high value goods, which were imported in the garb of scrap.

Sources told Customs Today that credible information was passed through the Collector Appraisement East Jameel Baloch to Additional Collector Mushtaq Shahani that an attempt would he made to smuggle high value commercial goods into the country under the garb of scrap consignments through East Wharf.

Subsequently, Assistant Collector Muhammad Arsalan maintained strict vigilance at the port in this regard and suspected consignments lying at port area were identified for detailed scrutiny.

Sources further told that two container were imported in the name of M/s Wasi Enterprise and two containers were imported in the name of M/s human Enterprise from consignor M/s Synergy World Wide General trading from UAE. Goods were manifested as Remeltable Scrap and used synthetic rope. Goods Declaration for clearance thereof had not been filed by the importer till date the goods were selected for detailed examination.

Instructions were issued to M/s Al Falah Container Terminal for pounding of the said container. Seal was found intact as per manifest of the same container. Examination found roll-on deodorants, bearing grease, assorted brand mobile phones and cigarettes as against the manifested description.

All the goods have been detained. An FIR is lodged against M/s Wasi Enterprise, M/s Humna Enterprise and M/s Synergy Worldwide General Trading.

Further investigations are still underway till the filing of this report
