MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) Multan Region has thwarted an attempt to smuggle non-duty paid foreign origin shopping bags, cloths and miscellaneous goods of almost Rs.20 million along with vehicle near Sakhi Sarwar.
Sources told Customs Today that Director Muhammad Asif Khan Buzdar received credible information that huge quantity of non duty paid goods will be transported from Quetta to Punjab through Sakhi Sarwar route.
Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Muhammad Asif Khan Buzdar directed field Intelligence staff to take timely action against smuggled goods and enhanced monitoring of the suspected vehicles to foil any attempt of smuggling.
Field Intelligence Staff of Customs has intercepted a suspected truck loaded with huge quantity of Plastic bags and cloths during routine road checking near Sakhi Sarwar Check Point. Customs field Intelligence staff deputed at various strategic points to intercept the said trucks by recovering huge amount quantity of plastic shopping bags, cloths after the intercepting said vehicle. During the past few days after, Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan has thwarted several major smuggling attempts in jurisdiction.
Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Multan has adopted zero tolerance for smuggling and smugglers as well.
Earlier, Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) Customs had seized 10 lakh liters of smuggled petroleum products.
Due to effective monitoring and vigilance of Customs Intelligence and Investigation non-customs duty paid goods had been seized while taking effective measures to curb smuggling across the province.
Director Custom Intelligence & Investigation Multan has warned that strict action would be taken against the smugglers who had brought non-customs duty paid goods inside Multan Region. He further said that the Custom Intelligence Department is trying to get the people to bring the goods into the country by paying customs duty instead of smuggling them. This will not only benefit them, but also bring revenue to the department.
