KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement thwarted an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of foreign origin prohibited injections and drugs from Gwadar to Quetta. The total value of the recovered prohibited injections and drugs is Rs38.1 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi received credible information that a huge quantity of prohibited injections and drugs would be smuggled from Gwadar.
After receiving information, Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi directed Additional Collector Customs Enforcement Amanullah Tareen in this regard. Amanullah Tareen constituted a special team under the supervision of Assistant Collector Enforcement ASO Anti-Smuggling Aman Sadiq, which conducted special surveillance of buses, trailers, and trucks coming from Baluchistan to Karachi.
Plainclothes officers were deployed at various places on RCD Highway and special instructions were also issued to the staff deployed at Mochko check post.
Subsequently, the staff deployed at Mochko check post stopped a bus coming from Gwadar and conducted a detailed search. As a result, a special secret compartment was found in the bus. 2200 prohibited Boston injections worth Rs11 million and 14.85 kg of marijuana/weed drugs worth Rs27.1 were recovered from these secret compartments.
The bus worth Rs20 million used in smuggling has also been seized. Three accused have been arrested. A case has been registered and investigations are underway.
