QUETTA: The Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation I(I&I) in collaboration with FC North, seized smuggled and non-duty paid goods and vehicles worth Rs306 million..
Sources told that the operation was carried out on the basis of credible information from Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, Director General, I&I, Islamabad to Director Quetta Nadeem Memon, who directed the Customs I&I team led by Deputy Director Sohail Ahmed to intercept the smugglers and seize their illegal consignments. The team is comprised of IOs Hanif Kurd, Hamid Habiba and others.
The seized items included sugar, gur, beatle quids, blankets, tomato paste, animal medicines, MP3 tapes, torches, cream, shampoo, china salt, acid, silver plates, tobacco, naswar, scrap, spare parts, tin scrap, vehicle engines, doors, iron sheets, flavor, almond, toffees, cell chargers, steel rims, cigarettes of different brands, Nokia 105, Nokia 106, Q Mobile E4, iPhone 6s, laptops, and computer hard disks.
The total value of the case was estimated at Rs 306 million, making it one of the biggest seizures of smuggled goods in the region. The smugglers were trying to evade customs duty and taxes by transporting the goods through the porous border areas
Further proceedings in the case have been initiated in accordance with law and the smugglers will be brought to justice. The Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta, has vowed to continue its efforts to curb smuggling and protect the national economy.
