KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has recovered huge consignment of foreign-origin fabric and sofa curtain cloth from two godowns located in Bhadurabad on the wee hours of January 31, 2024.
Sources told Customs Today that the operation was carried out by the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Collectorate, under the supervision of Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi, who had received credible information about the presence of smuggled goods in the godowns at Silk Shopping Mall, Bhadurabad, Karachi.
An anti-smuggling squad, led by Deputy Collector Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi, raided the godowns and recovered 11200 kilograms of sofa curtain cloth, velvet, American velvet, and Turkish fabric, valued at Rs. 73.34 million. The seized goods have been detained for further legal action, and an FIR has been lodged under the Customs Act, 1969.
Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi lauded the performance of the ASO team and said that the operation was part of the ongoing anti-smuggling drive across the city. He said that the Collectorate would continue to take strict action against the smugglers.
