17 urban centres, 53 items: Weekly inflation increases by 0.79%

KARACHI: The weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) inflation has increased by 0.79 per cent during the week ended on January 1, 2015, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The PBS data shows that the SPI for the week under review was recorded at 211.28 point against 209.63 points over the same period of last year. The SPI inflation decreased by 0.33 percent this week as compared to the previous week coming down from 211.99 points to 211.28 points.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups. The SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000 registered an increase of 1.42 percent during the week under review as compared to the same period last year.

During the week, average prices of 11 items registered an increase, while that of 17 registered a decrease. The prices of 25 essential items remained same during the week under review.

The 11 essential items which registered increase in prices during the week under review included chicken live, sugar, pulse gram washed, firewood, pulse Moong washed, Gur, pulse Maash washed, cooked beef, pulse Masoor washed, rice irri-6 (Punjab/Sindh) and mustard oil. The 17 items which registered decrease in prices during the week under review included tomatoes, kerosene oil, hi-speed diesel (HSD), potatoes, petrol, LPG cylinder 11-kg, bananas, cooking oil tin, vegetable ghee tin, wheat flour, bag, wheat, rice basmati broken, garlic, vegetable ghee loose, red chili powder loose, onions and eggs.
