Multan Excise Dept collects Rs 882m in six months of FY 2014-15

MULTAN: The Excise and Taxation Department has generated Rs 882.1 million in the first six months of the fiscal year 2014-15.

The department has collected Rs 310 million property tax in the first six months of the current fiscal year. The department was given Rs 400 million target for the first six months but the department failed to achieve it. Four excise inspectors were suspended for issuing surplus tax notices to the property owners.

The Motor Vehicles Branch of the department has generated Rs 520 million up to December of the present fiscal year. The branch was given Rs 760 million, but the department failed to meet the target. Motor Branch In-charge Aman Shah was suspended for negligence.

The department has recovered Rs 3.1 million in the first six months while the located target was Rs 4.7 million.

The department was given Rs 300 million target for cotton tax, but it could only collect Rs 180 million. The department failed to achieve the target due to cotton crises this year.

The Irrigation Branch of the department has collected Rs 310 million. The branch was given Rs 50.84 million target for the six months.

Professional tax was applied on employees of different departments, but due to protests it was not collected this year.

Meanwhile, Multan Excise and Taxation Director Saeed Ahmad said the department was planning to take action against some officers for showing poor performance in recovery of taxes.
