Customs duty increased on imported items – LEDs, gas, chemicals, clothing

ISLAMABAD: Federal government has recommended a 2% increase in customs duty on various imported goods, including LED light circuits, according to official budget documents.

The customs duty rate has been raised from 3% to 5% on several categories of imports. Key proposals include:

Increase in duty on cereals and wheat-based products

Natural gas duty proposed to rise from 0% to 5%

Mineral oil duty also suggested to increase from 3% to 5%

Duties raised on coal, water gas, and other energy-related imports

Energy-saving lamps and tubes, including base caps for bulbs and tube lights, now face higher duties

Passenger lifts, locks, and latches to be taxed at 5% instead of the previous 3%

A 2% duty increase proposed on PCM coated metal sheets and re-rolled steel/metal sheets

Hike in duty on used imported clothes, shoes, and bags

Customs duty on single and multi-folded imported yarns increased by 2%

Trade advertising materials and commercial catalogs now face a 5% duty

Unbleached chemicals, food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic chemicals, and colorants used in polish are also included in the list

Raw materials used in buses and trucks now carry higher duties

A 2% increase in duty on electrical energy and wood-preserving oils
