DAVOS: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with Mr. Bill Gates today on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos.

The meeting centered on Pakistan’s reform initiatives, public health priorities, and opportunities for enhanced collaboration with the Gates Foundation.

During the discussions, Senator Aurangzeb expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s longstanding support to Pakistan, particularly its pivotal role in polio eradication efforts. He highlighted the Foundation’s continued engagement in addressing public health challenges and strengthening service delivery across the country.

Mr. Gates shared an update on the Foundation’s ongoing and future programs in Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts to eliminate polio. Both parties discussed the need for close coordination with relevant stakeholders and provincial authorities to ensure effective implementation of health initiatives, especially in areas requiring focused attention.

The Finance Minister also acknowledged the Gates Foundation’s support for the digitization of Pakistan’s taxation system, calling it a key component of the government’s broader reform agenda. Senator Aurangzeb noted that enhancing domestic resource mobilization through transparent and digital solutions remains a top priority, monitored at the highest level for effective implementation.

Mr. Gates underscored the significance of efficient tax systems in fostering long-term economic self-reliance, adding that digital tools could improve tax collection, governance, and service delivery. The Finance Minister noted that improved fiscal resilience has strengthened Pakistan’s capacity to respond to economic and climate-related challenges, reinforcing the need for reforms aimed at sustainable growth.

The discussion also explored opportunities for broader health sector cooperation, including local vaccine production and strengthened supply chains. Both sides welcomed continued dialogue with relevant ministries and partners to identify practical, sustainable options that support public health outcomes and domestic capacity building.

Senator Aurangzeb and Mr. Gates reaffirmed their shared commitment to working closely in the coming years, building on a relationship grounded in trust and shared objectives. They agreed that ongoing collaboration would contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s reform efforts and long-term socioeconomic progress.
