ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced strict action against Customs officers and officials found using social media platforms without prior permission from the competent authority.
In a notification issued on Monday, the FBR reiterated that government servants are required to obtain formal approval before engaging on social media, in line with existing rules and regulations. The move comes after field formations reported concerns over unauthorized social media use by officials of Customs formations operating under the FBR.
According to the notification, such activity constitutes “misconduct” under the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1964. The FBR emphasized that all officers and officials must strictly adhere to the directives issued by the Establishment Division regarding the use of social media platforms by government employees.
The Board has directed its field formations to ensure full compliance with the relevant Office Memorandums and warned that violations may invite disciplinary proceedings. The step is aimed at safeguarding institutional discipline, confidentiality, and the official conduct of government servants in the digital space.
