KARACHI: The Anti-Narcotics Force has seized a large quantity of narcotics from cargo containers that arrived at Karachi Port from South America, marking another major success in efforts to curb drug smuggling through seaports.

According to officials, ANF personnel recovered 41 kilograms of narcotics during an inspection carried out by the Port Control Unit at the South Asia Pakistan Terminal. The drugs were carefully hidden inside imported cargo containers in an attempt to evade detection. However, due to enhanced screening measures, officers were able to identify and seize the illegal consignment in time.

This latest operation comes amid increased vigilance at Karachi Port. In recent months, authorities have strengthened monitoring after a significant recovery in December last year, when the ANF intercepted 47 kilograms of cocaine at the same terminal. Following that case, officials decided to tighten checks on containers, especially scrap and commercial shipments arriving from South American countries, which are considered high-risk routes for narcotics trafficking.

As a result, inspections have become more frequent and detailed, involving intelligence-based profiling and physical examination of suspicious consignments. Officials believe these measures are already showing positive results, as repeated attempts to smuggle drugs are being foiled.

Meanwhile, investigations into the current seizure are ongoing. ANF teams are working to trace the individuals and networks involved in the trafficking operation. Authorities are also examining shipping documents, container movement records, and possible local facilitators linked to the case.

ANF officials reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug smuggling. They stressed that coordinated efforts with port authorities and customs officials will continue to strengthen security at entry points. Moreover, they emphasized that dismantling international drug networks remains a top priority.
