LAHORE: The Punjab government is taking a drastic step toward green energy. Authorities will impose a daily “Dung Tax” on buffalo dung across the province. Specifically, dairy owners must pay Rs30 per day for each buffalo. A local Pakistani newspaper reported this claim, citing unnamed sources.

This new tax serves a distinct environmental purpose. The province will use the collected dung to produce biogas. Moreover, this initiative operates under the broader “Suthra Punjab” (Clean Punjab) program.

Consequently, the government aims to convert daily livestock waste into a valuable energy resource.

Authorities have already outlined a clear “Dung Tax” collection strategy. Initially, the government will enforce the collection formula in two Gawala (dairy) colonies within Lahore.

Following this initial phase, the state will expand the policy significantly. Eventually, officials will collect the dung tax from a total of 168 dairy colonies across the province, including the capital.
