PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to present only a three-month budget for the next financial year instead of a full-year budget, according to the inside story of the PTI parliamentary party meeting.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said the decision was aimed at putting pressure on the federal government to accept the province’s demands.

During the PTI parliamentary party meeting in Peshawar, the provincial government decided that it would present a three-month budget instead of the budget for the entire fiscal year.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi told the meeting that the province would move forward with a limited-period budget for the next financial year.

CM accuses federation of pressure tactics

Afridi said the federal government was constantly “harassing” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instead of accepting its demands. He said that by not presenting a full budget, the province could apply pressure on the federal government in an effective and lawful manner.

The chief minister said that under Article 125, an elected government, like a caretaker setup, can also present a three-month budget. He argued that the constitutional provision provides room for the province to adopt a short-term budget approach.
