KARACHI: Pakistan’s current account has turned surplus after recording a significant improvement in May 2026, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan.

The central bank reported that the current account posted a surplus of $459 million in May 2026, compared to a deficit of $276 million in April. This marks a notable turnaround in the country’s external account position within a month.

Overall, during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, the current account also remained in surplus, recording a cumulative balance of $255 million.

According to the data, the improvement in the current account was driven largely by an increase in workers’ remittances, which helped offset external pressures and supported the shift back into positive territory.

Economists noted that the steady rise in remittance inflows played a key role in strengthening the external account and improving overall balance of payments stability during the period.
