KARACHI: Google is set to unveil “Digital Pasban” on Thursday, a new initiative aimed at equipping Pakistani families with tools and resources to protect children from online risks and promote safer digital experiences.

The initiative will be unveiled at Google’s “Safe Raho with Google” event, where the technology giant is expected to highlight practical measures for parents and families to address growing online safety challenges faced by children.

Digital Pasban is designed to strengthen awareness among families and help parents better navigate the digital environment, including potential risks associated with inappropriate content, cyberbullying and other online threats.

Google executives Farhan S. Qureshi and Wilson White will lead an open question-and-answer session and media briefing following the presentation, providing journalists an opportunity to discuss the initiative and Google’s broader digital agenda in Pakistan.

The unveiling comes amid rapid growth in internet and smartphone usage in Pakistan, with children increasingly relying on digital platforms for education, communication and entertainment.

The initiative is expected to focus on empowering parents with knowledge and tools to guide children towards safer and more responsible use of online platforms.

Google has also announced to open an office in Pakistan, signalling an expanded engagement with the country’s technology ecosystem.

The planned office is likely to further strengthen Google’s engagement with local developers, businesses, technology stakeholders and policymakers, while Digital Pasban will place immediate emphasis on online safety and child protection.

The “Safe Raho with Google” event is expected to provide further details about the scope of Digital Pasban and Google’s plans to support a safer digital environment for Pakistani families.
