Pakistan’s total liquid foreign reserves rise to $ 22.59b

KARACHI: The total liquid foreign reserves of Pakistan surged to US$ 22,587.4 million as of August 21, 2006 while reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased to US$ 17,098.5 million.

“During the week ended on 21 August 2026, SBP’s FX reserves increased by US$ 17 million to US$ 17,098.5 million,” the central bank reported on Thursday in its weekly statement on the position of liquid foreign reserves.

Meanwhile, the net foreign reserves held by commercial banks also soared by $ 64.7 million to $ 5,488.9 million, as shown in the break up of forex reserves for the period under review.

Pakistan’s total liquid foreign reserves in the previous week ended on August 13, 2026 stood $ 22,506.1 million. Among them the State Bank of Pakistan held foreign exchange reserves of $ 17,081.9 million while the other $ 5,424.2 million were held by the commercial banks.
