HEC-ICCI roundtable focusses academia-industry linkages

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan and Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) held a roundtable discussion on strengthening academia-industry linkages and technology commercialisation.

The meeting, held at ICCI, was chaired by President ICCI Mr. Sardar Tahir Mehmood. Member Research & Innovation Division HEC Dr. Syed Habib Bukhari led the HEC team. Representatives from academia, particularly officials of Offices of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORICs), and industry participated in the discussion.

The participants deliberated on the draft of HEC’s Joint Research Framework and Model Agreements, focusing on university-industry collaboration, demand-driven research, technology transfer, intellectual property and commercialisation. Feedback was sought for stakeholders to further refine the Framework.

The discussion revolved around strengthening linkages between academia and industry that is essential to foster innovation, enhance employability, and drive sustainable economic growth.

The two sides agreed to continue this dialogue in order to enhance coordination for the shared goal. The roundtable concluded with recommendations to strengthen collaboration and promote a more effective research, innovation and technology commercialisation ecosystem.
