ISLAMABAD: Civil servants in Grade 17 and above will now be required to file their annual asset declarations online instead of on paper, under a new digital system launched by the Establishment Division in coordination with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
An official notification announcing the change has been circulated to the President’s House, the Prime Minister’s Office, and all federal ministries, marking a shift away from the manual filing process that has been in place for decades.
According to the notification, officers have been given until October 30 to submit their declarations through a dedicated FBR portal, which has already been activated. Those who identify errors in their submitted forms will have until November 30 to correct them.
To access the portal, officers must first register an account using a personal email address, a step the notification describes as mandatory for filing.
The FBR has also been authorized to scrutinize the declared assets of government officials on a risk-based basis. Officers found to have misrepresented their assets or withheld information will face disciplinary proceedings, a penalty that will also apply to those who fail to submit a declaration at all.
In a move toward greater transparency, the notification states that selected, non-sensitive portions of the asset declarations will be made public on the FBR’s website, though it does not specify which categories of information will be excluded.
The digitization drive is expected to streamline the record-keeping process and reduce discrepancies that have historically arisen from paper-based filings.
