LAHORE: Punjab’s Excise and Taxation Department has decided to launch a crackdown on token tax and property tax defaulters from October 1, 2026, with stricter recovery measures planned against those who fail to clear their outstanding dues.
According to Excise officials, vehicle owners who remain in default after September 30 will face recovery of token tax along with a 100% penalty.
The department is currently collecting outstanding token tax under the routine payment terms until September 30, giving motorists a final opportunity to clear their dues without the additional penalty.
The department’s official website confirms that motor vehicle taxation is administered under the relevant provincial laws and provides online facilities for checking and paying Excise dues.
Officials have urged citizens to pay their token tax by September 30 to avoid the additional financial burden from October 1, 2026.
A similar deadline has been set for property taxpayers. According to officials, taxpayers can avail themselves of a 5% concession on property tax until September 30. After the deadline, the department will begin tougher recovery action against defaulters.
The crackdown will particularly target commercial properties that have remained in default for several years. Officials said the sealing of properties belonging to long-term commercial tax defaulters will also begin from October 1.
The Excise and Taxation Department is responsible for urban immovable property tax as well as motor vehicle registration and taxation in Punjab.
Officials said the intensified recovery campaign is part of efforts to achieve the department’s Rs. 125 billion revenue target, with all possible measures being taken to recover outstanding dues from defaulters.
With the September 30 deadline approaching, vehicle owners and property taxpayers with outstanding dues have been advised to make payments before the enforcement drive begins on October 1.
