ISLAMABAD: China’s Shengtang Group is exploring a $10 million investment opportunity in Pakistan, with potential cooperation in industrial development, electric vehicles (EVs), infrastructure, energy, railways, tourism and urban development.
A delegation of the Chinese group met Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan in Islamabad to discuss investment opportunities and a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU).
During the meeting, Haroon Akhtar Khan said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of strengthening economic cooperation with China was being translated into practical measures. He assured the delegation of the government’s full support and highlighted regulatory reforms and land-lease arrangements aimed at facilitating foreign investors and promoting industrial development.
The adviser identified electric vehicles as a key area for future investment and industrial cooperation, saying collaboration with Chinese companies could support technology transfer, expand Pakistan’s industrial base and create employment opportunities. He also noted that around 40% of joint initiatives and MoUs between Pakistan and China had reportedly entered the implementation phase.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties and encouraging Chinese investment in Pakistan’s emerging industrial sectors. Government officials reiterated their commitment to improving the business environment and facilitating investment projects.
