TEHRAN: Iran exported the first 30 tonnes shrimp consignment to Russia last week, head of Iran’s Fisheries Organization Hassan Salehi said here the other day.
He said if the two countries reach an agreement on the price of products, Iran is ready to export 5,000 tons of shrimp and 20,000 tons of trout to Russia by the end of current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2015), officials said here the other day.
In October 2014, Iranian Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati said Iran is considering ways to export fruits and other agricultural products to Russia.
Meanwhile, the press service of Russia’s agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor reported in the same time that Iran is interested in supplying meat and dairy products to Russia.
“Many of the Iranian companies supply fish and marine products, such as shrimp, trout and black caviar, abroad, including to the European Union countries. Iranian companies are ready to supply to Russia, in particular, meat, dairy, marine and fish products,” the watchdog said.
In August 2014, Moscow imposed a ban on food imports from the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia, and Norway in response to economic sanctions imposed on Russia over its alleged role in escalating the Ukrainian crisis.
The ban, targeting meat, fish, poultry and milk products, nuts, fruits and vegetables, is expected to last for a year. Iran, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico have expressed their willingness to boost food exports to Russia.
