LAHORE: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) has started to prepare guidelines to aware the exporters of red meat about the international compliance requirements, the chief executive officer Alamgir Chaudhry said.
He said the global red meat market is valued more than $48 billion.
Pakistan has a very meager share of 0.44 percent in the world market as the country exports meat worth $200 million a year.
“The volume can be enhanced manifold by transforming the red meat resources of Pakistan into value-added products, which can only be possible by enabling the industry to meet the international compliance issues,” Smeda chief said in a meeting with the representatives of public and private sectors.
The participants were from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Punjab Halal Development Authority, Punjab Enabling Environment Project of USAID and All Pakistan Meat Exporters and Processors Association.
Stakeholders shared their views about the meat sector and offered their support to Smeda for developing guidelines on compliance requirements.
