Appraisement-West recovers evaded tax of Rs 2.6m from Royal Chemical

KARACHI: The Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB/R&D) of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC of Appraisement (West) has recovered Rs 2.6 million from the importer, Royal Chemical Karachi, against short realization of customs duty.

The authorities concerned of the AIB/R&D received information that some unscrupulous elements had succeeded in importing ‘trichloroisocyanuric acid’ (TCCA 90 percent) by taking benefit of SRO 1125/2011 and, consequently, evaded legitimate amount of duty/taxes to the extent of Rs 2.6million.

Upon, the aforesaid information, the subject four (4) goods Declaration (GDs) i.e. KAPW-HC-101131-05-01-2015, KAPW-HC-35674-09-09-2014, KAPW-HC-9486-18-07-2014 and KAPW-HC-13025-02-08-2013 filed by the importer M/s Royal Chemicals have been scrutinized carefully, which further revealed that the subject consignments declared to contain “Trichloroisocyanuric Acid” (TCCA 90per cent) had been assessed extending undue benefit under concessionary SRO 1125(I)/2011.

Consequently, an amount of Rs26,06223 remained short realized against the subject for Goods Declaration including KAPW-HC-101131-05-01-2015 had short recovery of Rs660704; KAPW-HC-35674-09-09-2014 had short recovery amounting to Rs659027; KAPW-HC-9486-18-07-2014 had short recovery amounting to Rs617294 and KAPW-HC-13025-02-08-2013 had realized short recovery of Rs669198.

The AIB authorities concerned with the consent of relevant authority of the Collectorate i.e. ADC-III Nayyar Shafiq have issued demand notice against the importer M/s Royal Chemical and its clearing agent M/s Amjad Trading Corporation against short recovery and most of the amount has been recovered from the importer.
