Official residences grabbed: NAB asked to rein in illegal occupants

ISLAMABAD – The Public Account Committee (PAC)’s sub-committee directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to initiate an inquiry against illegal occupants of the government houses and against those officials failed retrieve them.

It held a meeting with Syed Naveed Qamar was in the chair. In his ruling, he said the Ministry of Housing and Works could not perform rightly and directed the Secretary to strengthen internal mechanism of the ministry and its attached departments.

As per the audit official, a contract of the construction of flats in G-8 was given to a company without any bidding process. Several rules were violated and the ministry of housing and works made extra payment of Rs 4.811 million during the year 2002-03. Secretary Ministry of Housing and Works replied that this was 1985 scheme and was delayed several years as at that time there were no PPRA rules.

It formed a committee consisting one member each from the PAC, Audit, and Ministry of Housing and Works to hold meeting and resolve the issue and also fix responsibility if someone is involved in it.
