LAHORE: The Excise Union on Wednesday protested against the of French magazine Charlie Hebdo for printing blasphemous caricatures.
The protesters chanted slogans against the French government and magazine.
Addressing the protestors, Excise Union President Muhammad Mushtaq condemned the act of the magazine and demanded the Pakistan government take up the issue with the French government.
The protesters said that the freedom of expression does not mean hurting the emotions of other people. Media independence should be under the limits. United Nations should make possible to follow the international laws on blasphemy and respect of religions. All religions are respectable so whole world should make sure to respect the religions.
The French magazine had published blasphemous cartoons last week. After the blasphemous caricatures, protests started in the whole world against the French government and the magazine. In Pakistan different political and religious parties also condemned this act and protest against the magazine. The Pakistan government has also condemned the act and asked the United Nations to ensure respect of all religions.
