Chief Collector Nazim Saleem praises Customs Exports officers in writing

KARACHI: Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem has written an appreciation letter to Collector MCC Exports Manzoor Memon for extra-ordinary efforts undertaken by the officers of the collectorate in recovery of the outstanding dues amounting millions of rupees from different importers and exporters.

In the letter, the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem cited a case related to M/s Gravure Packaging (Pvt) Limited, Karachi, in which the importer violated the SRO 772(I)/89 through importing three consignments of packaging material namely “cellulose packing film” in the years 1992 and 1993 without payment of leviable duty/taxes amounting to Rs3683264.

The said consignments were released by the Customs authorities under SRO 722(I)/89 against an indemnity Bond with a post dated cheques. On failure to meet the requirement of SRO 722(I)/89, recovery proceedings were initiated against the manufacturing bond vide recovery notice under Section 202 of the Customs Act, 1969.

These recovery proceedings have been successfully culminated after 23years as the above property has been attached under Chapter XI of the Customs Rules, 2001 in favour of the Federal Government through proclamation of order of attachment issued by the Assistant Collector of Customs (Special Recovery Cell) of MCC-Exports.

In the letter, the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem said that he had gone through the entire case and reached at the conclusion that the efforts of present Collector-MCC Exports Manzoor Hussain Memon, Assistant Collector Sanam Qureshi and Principal Appraiser/Attachment Officer Sardar Amin Farooqui were highly commendable.

The Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) congratulated the aforementioned officers on their hard-out efforts in recovering the defaulting amount from importer M/s Gravure Packaging (Pvt) Limited.

“Such performance in connection with recovering the defaulting amount is certainly unique and unprecedental in nature”, Chief Collector added.

The Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem also lauded the efforts of MCC-Exports Collectorate officers/officials in attachment of immovable property in Multan and Karachi.

The Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) also asked the Director of the Directorate General of Training and Research (DGTR) to include the names of Assistant Collector Sanam Qureshi and Principal Appraiser Sardar Amin Farooqui in the appreciation list on the eve of World Customs Day.
