Internal audit-customs awaits reply to audit paras from Port Qasim collectorate

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate of Port Muhammad Bin Qasim has not yet replied comprehensively against the audit paras sent by the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs.

A reliable source informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned of MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim have not yet replied against the audit paras established by Internal Audit-Customs in violation of SROs in clearance of different consignments.

Source said that the response of authorities concerned of MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim towards the veracity of audit paras sent by the Internal Audit Customs were linked with Luke-warm approach as compare to the response sent by the MCC Appraisement-West and MCC Appraisement-East.

Customs Today was further told that the Collector MCC Appraisement-East Najeeb ur Rehman Abbasi has promptly responded over the audit paras sent by the Internal Audit-Customs in violation of different SROs in clearing the consignments. Furthermore Director General of the Directorate of Internal Audit-Customs Rubina Wasti has contacted Collector MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim Surriya Butt over the weak response towards the audit paras established by Internal Audit-Customs in different sectors.

Internal Audit Customs has already sent audit paras in violation of SROs 480(I)/2007, 565(I)/2007, 575(I)/2007, 1125(I)/2011 related the consignments of steel billets, anti-dumping and telecommunication sectors.

Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Tariq Bajwa in his previous visit to Karachi had especially paid a surprise visit to MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and held meetings with the officers of the Collectorate.

The source further said that the Chairman FBR has also directed the authorities concerned of the Collectorate to pay special heed towards the revenue collection and improve the performance of the Collectorate at considerable extent.
